Coking
1. Verb  [Refining]
id: 72
Coking is the refining process in which heavier products of the distillation process (residuals) are converted to lighter products known as petroleum coke, a solid, coal-like fuel. A coking unit is used to heat hydrobarbons to near 900 degrees Farenheit in order to vaporize the lighter products, leaving the petroleum coke to solidify in a large drum. The coke is then removed using high-pressure water jets.
