Western Australia's Premier-elect Colin Barnett says he will seek an urgent meeting with the developers of a multi-billion gas development proposed for the Kimberley.
Inpex wants to build a LNG plant on the Maret Islands off the Kimberley to process gas from the Browse Basin.
However there is concern Western Austraia has lost the project to Darwin because of the previous Labor government's red tape.
Mr Barnett has told the Fairfax news network he will make the matter a priority.
"I will certainly do what I can to see if we can get that project back," he said.
"As I understand it the decision had been made to take that project to Darwin, now whether they will reconsider that decision I guess remains to be seen but that would be a great blow to Western Australia."
