Indian Oil Corp. Ltd (IOCL) has awarded Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T) a large project order comprising two trains of 300-tonne-per-day sulfur recovery units (EPCC - 5), along with associated facilities such as amine regeneration unit sour water stripper and tail gas treatment unit for enhanced Sulfur recovery up to 99.9%. The order will enable IOCL to produce low-sulfur clean fuels to meet regulatory requirements. The order is valued at Rs 693 crores.

IOCL, which operates one of its biggest refineries at Koyali on the outskirts at Vadodara city in the State of Gujarat, India, plans to set up these sulfur recovery plants as part of their fuels upgradation project and have awarded the order on an EPC basis to L&T. Toyo Engineering India Ltd has been retained by IOCL to provide services for the process licensors, Project Management Consultancy (PMC) and Black & Veatch (USA).

The EPC order comprises residual process design, detailed engineering, procurement, supply, transportation, storage, fabrication, inspection, construction, installation, testing, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning and performance guarantee test runs.

L&T said that it won the order despite keen competition based on the strength of its track record meeting refinery project quality requirements and conforming to fast-track schedules.
