Project description

On June 24, 2008, officials with Shell, QPI, Qatar's Ministry of Energy and Industry, and China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) signed a letter or intent to begin joint preliminary studies to assess the viability of building an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex and marketing its products in China.

The complex would produce refined fuels as well as petrochemical products. CNPC would own a 51% stake in the complex while Shell and QPI would each own 24.5% stakes.

Shell's announcement of the initiative did not indicate details about a specific location in China, process units, specific products, projected start and end dates for construction, or the projected cost.
