Two pipelines tied to upcoming industrial projects soon will snake their way through the city with the Port Arthur (Texas) City Council's stamp of approval.

The council unanimously OK'd both permits for pipeline construction on Wednesday.

A 42-inch natural gas line from the Golden Pass Liquefied Natural Gas terminal near Sabine Pass will run under Texas 87 near Keith Lake and Texas 73 near the landfill.

Other government entities already have approved the pipeline project, Tom Burger, Golden Pass facility manager, said.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission also has approved the pipeline, which will run through Jefferson, Orange and Newton counties and end in Sparks, La., Burger said.

A second pipeline of 30 inches will run from the Sunoco facility in Nederland to the Motiva Enterprises refinery in Port Arthur. The crude-oil line will sit in existing pipeline corridors, said Peter Spencer of STV Inc., the engineering firm working with Sunoco.

The pipeline is part of Motiva's $1 billion expansion, Spencer added.

Both projects were reviewed and approved by the council-appointed Citizen's Pipeline Committee last month, John Comeaux, city public works director, told council members.

Public hearings prior to Wednesday's vote drew no comments.

In other action Wednesday, the council approved selling about 1.5 acres of inaccessible Pleasure Islet land to neighboring Golden Triangle Marine for $40,012.
