Project description
The Creole Trail LNG terminal will be situated on 1,750 acres along the Calcasieu River Channel in Cameron Parish, La.
The facility has a regasification capacity of 3.3 Bcf/d, two unloading docks capable of handling up to 250,000 cubic meter LNG shipping vessels, and four 160,000 cubic meter tanks capable of handling up to 250,000 cubic meter LNG shipping vessels, and four 160,000 cubic meter tanks capable of holding 13.5 BCF of LNG.
The proposed Creole Trail pipeline will have a design capacity of 3.3 Bcf/d. The 42-inch pipeline will extend 118 miles north-northeast from the terminal through Cameron, Calcasieu, Beauregard, Allen, Jefferson Davis and Acadia parishes, where it will end at Rayne, Louisiana. The pipeline will be able to transport 12 Bcf/d.
The terminal and associated pipeline will be the largest receiving terminal and pipeline in North America. Cheniere Energy, Inc would own and operate the Creole Trail LNG Terminal.
In April 2010, the U.S. Coast Guard issued letters of recommendation for Creole Trail and seven other LNG projects under development on the Gulf Coast. The move indicates that the Coast Guard considers the waterways near the LNG terminals sufficient to handle expected vessel traffic.
According to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the Creole Trail project had been approved but was not under construction as of August 3, 2010.
