Lurgi S.A. on Thursday signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with Grupa Lotos S.A. to construct a crude distillation unit at Lotos' refinery in Gdansk, Poland.
The CDU will be the second unit of its type at the facility. Its annual capacity will be 4.5 million tonnes of crude, making it possible for Lotos to increase crude throughput to 10.5m tonnes annually--or by approximately 75%. Thanks to the new unit, the company will be able to improve the supply of fuels to the domestic market.
The contract implementation will finish in the second half of 2009.
The contract is a part of the Comprehensive Technical Upgrade Program, whose purpose is to increase the processing capacity of the Gdansk refinery and the conversion ratio.
As part of the program, Lurgi S.A. of Krakow—a member of the Lurgi AG Group--is also implementing a turnkey contract for the construction of a hydrogen generation unit. This contract was signed on June 28, 2007.
