The City of Port Arthur, Texas, shed 180 acres of vacant land and another 26 acres of submerged land for the ExxonMobil liquefied natural gas facility near Sabine Pass.

Council members voted 6-0 Tuesday to approve the move. Councilmen John Beard Jr. and Martin Flood were absent and Position 7 is vacant.

Mayor Deloris "Bobbie" Prince said by phone that the land was next to the 900 acres previously disannexed.

The Golden Pass LNG project is on schedule to be finished by mid-2009, said Kathleen Jackson, ExxonMobil spokeswoman. The facility now has 600 workers, but will have nearly 1,100 by the end of the year.
