BG Group PLC (BG.LN) said Friday it has already spent A$2.3 billion developing its gas export project in Australia's Queensland state and still has over 200 vacancies for jobs including engineers and welders.

BG wants to complete the A$15 billion project in 2014, when it plans to ship cargoes of liquefied natural gas to customers in Japan and China.

About A$1.7 billion of the A$2.3 billion spent between January, 2010 and the end of March was spent in Australia, BG said.

Nearly 3,600 people are currently working on the project, including 1,356 full time employees. BG said it still has over 200 vacancies for roles ranging from engineers to production supervisors, maintenance staff, plant operators, trade assistants and welders, among others.

BG's is one of close to a dozen large Australia gas export projects either under construction or on the drawing board competing for workers in a tight labor market.
