Flint Hills Resources employees in Longview, Texas, have worked a full year without a U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration recordable injury, the company reported Thursday.
"Safety is our first priority," said Gary Thompson, plant manager for Flint Hills Resources. "We have high expectations of our employees and it is an outstanding accomplishment for these employees to achieve this milestone. Their commitment to working safely is a team effort and that effort contributes to our ability to operate efficiently and create value for our customers."
Employees at the site, which has earned Voluntary Protection Programs Star Status from OSHA, have also worked 878 consecutive days - and 1.4 million hours - without a significant injury resulting in time away from work.
From the Longview site, a team of 71 is charged with supporting the polymers production plant located within the Eastman Chemical facility. In addition to operations management, the site includes a technical services and development capability as well as warehousing and rail unloading.
Flint Hills Resources, a privately held refining and chemicals company, acquired the Longview site in 2007, along with other plants in Odessa and Port Arthur, Texas, and Peru, Ill., and Marysville, Mich.
