The Capline and LOOP/LOCAP crude oil pipelines were each operating at normal levels Friday morning, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reported. They were the only crude oil pipelines affected by hurricanes Gustav and Ike that had achieved normal operating status to date.
Capline transports crude from Louisiana to Illinois and is connected to LOCAP, which links Capline to the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP). The operating capacity for Capline and LOOP/LOCAP is 1.2 million barrels per day.
Three crude pipelines affected by Gustav and Ike were still shut down as of 8 a.m. Central time Friday.
Out of the 11 product pipelines impacted by the storm, three -- Central Florida, Longhorn, and NuStar/Texas Gulf Coast -- reported normal operations. The Colonial, Magellan, and Plantation product pipelines were running at reduced levels while another three -- CP Sweeny to Pasadena, Explorer, and TEPPCO -- were partially shut down. The Centennial and CP Seaway Products pipelines were shut down Friday morning.
Both of the natural gas liquid (NGL) pipelines in the path of Gustav and Ike, Dixie and Enterprise, were partially shut down when DOE released the report.
An overview of the status of crude, product, and NGL pipelines in the paths of Gustav and Ike appears in the table associated with this article.
