Offshore pipelaying entails laying pipe on the seafloor using the J-lay or bottom tows installation methods. Deepwater pipelines also can be installed using dynamically positioned lay barges rather than the traditional anchored systems. Reel pipelaying is another technique which involves fixing one end of the pipe to a terminal point and unrolling the pipe off a reel.
